Who exactly is "Paulu the tailor"
My Nanu emigrated to Detroit in the late 1940s from Malta. He left his wife, 4 children and profession as a tailor and promised to return once he had started a more solid foundation in the United States. After Paulu opened his shop, Paul's Tailoring and Tuxedos, he sent for his family to join him in Detroit. Paulu used his great people skills and his love of a tailored suit to better his families life in the land of opportunity. He would preform alterations and talk to potential clients while his young sons and daughters would learn to hem, sew and split seams in the back of the shop. His passion was to make a tailored garment for a man to feel good wearing. Good threads on a groomed man in the 1950's advertised him very well. Soon Paul's became a premiere choice for a great article of clothing for business or pleasure.
Once I found my calling in life as a creative editor while working in the Metro Detroit advertising agency over 50 years later, I found myself tailoring edits to my clients needs. I would split seams, size-to-fit, hem, stitch and make necessary alterations, or revisions based on the individual task at hand. The similarities between what my Nanu did with his hands in the 1950's and what I do with film, music and video today were brought to my attention from someone very close to my heart and once I heard her ask me if I "had to make any alterations to my spot" I fell in love with the idea. Paulu's ambition and drive is the reason I am able to express my creativity with each project I undertake. I think that the "old-school" terminology for editing is a fantastic juxtaposition of my craft and his.
I am proficient on both Mac and PC based editing systems,as well as PAL and NTSC formats - Most notably Avid HD, Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere. I utilize Adobe Photoshop and dabble in After Effects when necessary. I am a freelance editor by trade but very much enjoy producing and shooting on the road guerrilla style and adapting to my local surroundings. I started as a Production Assistant in 2003 and plan on taking over the world as soon as I can. I hope you enjoy my work, I hope it inspires you and I hope to be able to collaborate on something great with you in the future.
